The purpose of this memo is to notify the Elite Draw Zones on several updates to the Male Elite Hockey Model for the 2020-21 season. Based on Hockey Alberta’s August 21 version of the Return to Hockey Plan, the Elite Male Committee has identified the following four (4) procedural changes to the Elite Male Hockey Model tryout procedures and registration process.

1. Tryout Rosters: In lieu of tryout rosters, teams will be required to register all players in their cohort in HCR as of September 14. Cohort rosters can be no larger than 50 participants which includes coaches and team staff.

2. Elite Waiver: Upon being released from a player’s first tryout and obtaining an Elite waiver, a player will have no more than three (3) days to contact and arrange a second tryout with another host MHA at that level. It is the host MHA’s decision whether to accept the player’s request. Please note, according to AHS guidelines any player leaving one Cohort cannot participate with a new Cohort for 14 days.

Third tryouts will not be permitted. • Players that cannot or choose not to arrange a second tryout within three (3) days of being released will be returned to their Resident MHA in order to obtain permission to tryout for a “AA” program or to access other minor hockey programs.

• With there being sufficient tryout opportunities within the Calgary and Edmonton Draw Zones, players that fall within either the Calgary or Edmonton Draw Zones will not be granted additional tryout opportunities outside their Resident Draw Zone.

3. U18 AAA Pre-Season: As a result of the Return to Hockey timelines, the U18 AAA five-game pre-season will not take place. Final team roster declaration will be completed through the Cohort and team training, and exhibition series.

4. Affiliation: Affiliation will not be permitted to be filed nor used during the Development Season. The deadline for filing for affiliation will be moved to January 15, 2021.

REGISTRATION NOTES:

    1. Male (U15/U16/U18) AAA teams will be required to register all players in their cohort in HCR as of September 14. Cohort rosters can be no larger than 50 participants which include coaches and team staff.
    2. The Tryout Rosters that currently existS in HCR will be utilized to register the 50 participant cohort groups. They amended the team settings for all AAA Tryout Rosters to allow for a maximum of 50 tryout allotments. All players and bench staff are to be registered with the “Tryout” box checked. This is important as it ensures that the registration numbers are not included in the reports we pull for invoicing purposes.
    3. Players needing to be transferred to register on a cohort roster can be entered into HCR using the “AAA” transfer type. The NTO must be uploaded for transfer approval.
    4. There is no need to amend the Team or League name.
    5. As a reminder, the settings for these Teams and Leagues are managed by Glenn Sommerville, so any requests for changes to the Team or League settings be submitted by email and Glenn will facilitate those revisions if required.

Elite Waiver

Players will have no more than three (3) days to arrange a second tryout. Third tryouts will not be permitted.

    1. With the changes to the tryout procedures, the Elite Male Second/Third Tryout Approval Form will not be utilized this season.
    2. Players that are accessing second tryouts will need to complete the online Elite Male Waiver Form.
    3. Players needing to be transferred to register on a cohort rosters for their second tryout can be entered into HCR using the “AAA” transfer type. The completed online Elite Male Waiver Form must be uploaded for transfer approval.U18 AAA Pre-Season

U18 AAA Pre-Season
