U13AA/AAA Announcement

Jun. 27, 2024

The 24/25 Hockey Season officially starts on August 31, 2024, for U13AAA and AA

U13 AAA/U13 AA Teams

CAC 2024/2025 U13 AAA and AA Hockey Program

CAC hosted ID skates and prep skates in the spring of 2024. There were a couple of reasons why CAC hosted these events. Players at that time had to decide what route they wanted to go to for the 2024/2025 season, the Hockey Canada route, Hockey Academy or HSL.  While each program has its unique features, the CAC has always followed the Hockey Canada route. The skates were designed to help players make their choice on which program they wanted to go with. Our 2024/2025 coaches were present and helped with promoting our program. The skates are not categorized as tryouts but were to help coaches identify possible prospects for the 2 - U13 teams.

The CAC will be operating one U13AAA team and one U13AA team. Both of these teams will be part of the Alberta Elite Hockey League. More information on the U13AAA program will be shared once available.

Tryouts for all 17 positions on both the U13AAA and the U13AA teams officially start on August 31, 2024.

All U13 players start tryouts at the U13 AAA level.

Hockey Alberta has developed a pilot program for U13AAA for the 2024/2025 season.  The CAC will host 1 U13 AAA team and 1 U13 AA team.  At U13 AAA,  it is expected that the team composition will primarily be 12 year-olds with some 11 year-olds. Any underage player trying out must make a special application to the Hockey Edmonton Registrar. Underage players must be evaluated as being in the top one-third of the U13 AAA team or return to the Federation Program.

You will receive an email approximately one week before the first ice time. Please note all ice times and groups will be posted on the CAC website. You should always go there as changes arise thru out the tryout process.

U13 players will be divided randomly into groups. All 11 and 12 year-olds will be grouped together, with both age categories observed and evaluated by the coaching staff of the U13 AAA and U13 AA teams and by the corresponding Category Directors as well as other members of the Hockey Operations Committee as required.

There will be a separate goalie evaluation. Goaltenders will be emailed their group and time. All groups and times will be on the CAC website

An injury or illness incurred at tryout time might cause the player to lose out on an opportunity to try out with CAC. It is a coach’s discretion whether an ill or injured player continues on for further evaluation. The Club is not required to hold positions open for ANY player while they heal from an illness or injury, or is trying out with another Club in the Player Movement process.

U13 AAA

A series of 4 skates will determine the top 34 players to participate in the U13AAA Red vs White game. From this group of 34 players, 22 will be selected for the U13AAA extended tryouts.

All remaining players will report to the U13AA tryouts or contact the CAC registrar for the player movement process at the U13AAA level.

The top 34 U13AA players will participate in a Red vs White game, with the top 22 being selected for extended tryouts. All remaining players will report to their respective Zone.

Team formation will be constructed over the next couple of weeks, with the teams getting down to their perspective roster size of 17 players.

U13 Releases

At the U13 levels, rosters will be pared down to within one or two players of being “set” by the start of the pre-season and be finalized shortly thereafter. If the tryouts in your district begin during this time frame, it is advisable that you communicate with your district Registrar or U13 Category Director to ensure knowledge of their tryout time lines.

All U13-age players released from U13AAA or U13AA may contact the CAC Registrar to enter the U13 AAA or U13AA Player Movement process, to tryout for another city club

If the tryouts in your District begin during this time frame, it is advisable that you communicate with your Association/District Registrar or U13 Category Director to ensure knowledge of their tryout times.
